It’s not just about us…

June 3, 2012

Yes, the Moving Panorama of Pilgrim’s Progress is special.  But as an existing moving panorama in an American museum collection, it’s not entirely unique.  In fact, it’s not even the only moving panorama exhibition opening in June 2012!

From June 8–this Friday!–through September 3, the St. Louis Art Museum will present Restoring an American Treasure: The Panorama of the Monumental Grandeur of the Mississippi Valley. Visitors will be able to watch in real time as the museum’s conservation team cleans and restores the scenes of the panorama one by one, all 348 feet of it.

Conservation is an important part of the story behind the Moving Panorama of Pilgrim’s Progress, too–you can read more about it here and here.  Or you could come see it in the flesh–get the first peek at the big opening party on Friday, June 29 at Pepperell Mill Campus.  Or drop in anytime between June 30 and November 10:  find full exhibit information here!

Come to think of it, why not make it a moving panorama tour of the United States?  Panoramas are all about epic journeys, after all.  You can use our handy list of existing moving panoramas as your personal Trip Tick and hit the panoramic road this summer season!
